California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed a radical bill into law that makes the Golden State a sanctuary for child sex changes.
On September 29, 2022, the governor signed into law Senate Bill 107 (SB 107) which allows courts to take away parents’ rights if their child comes to the state seeking experimental and damaging puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and ‘sex change’ surgeries.
California courts are permitted to take “temporary emergency jurisdiction” of these children and authorize permanent and damaging procedures, even if their parents oppose them.
As the Daily Citizen has previously reported, “SB 107 also prohibits medical providers from releasing information so that criminal or civil actions can be pursued for providing those harmful interventions.”
The tragic irony is that in a letter dated September 29, 2022, Gov. Newsom wrote to members of the California state senate about the newly signed law.
“In California we believe in equality and acceptance. We believe that no one should be prosecuted or persecuted for getting the care they need – including gender-affirming care,” the governor wrote.
Here’s the ironic part of the letter:
“Parents know what’s best for their kids, and they should be able to make decisions around the health of their children without fear. We must take a stand for parental choice. That is precisely why I am signing Senate Bill 107.”
The governor proclaimed that he believes in “parental choice,” immediately after signing into law a bill that undermines and destroys parental choice.
After Gov. Newsom signed the bill, California Family Council, a Focus-allied organization, said in a press release that the bill empowers “state courts to remove out-of-state children from their parent’s custody if those children come to California because they can’t get sterilizing transgender drugs and mutilating surgeries in their home states.”
“SB 107 endangers every young person in the nation who experiences gender dysphoria,” said California Family Council President Jonathan Keller.
“By signing this extreme bill, Gavin Newsom is telling all parents across the country that he knows what’s best for their children. Mothers and fathers in every state should demand their elected representatives push back against this unconstitutional assault on parental rights. Governors and legislators must defend their citizens from this out-of-control government in Sacramento,” Keller added.
Alliance Defending Freedom is a nonprofit legal organization and has offered legal analysis of SB 107.
The organization has concluded that the bill “is likely unconstitutional for violating fundamental parental rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. It also likely violates various federal laws … [and] would likely fail if challenged in court.”
This reckless legislation is not just an assault on parent’s rights but also serves as a cruel disservice to confused children, whom we should be protecting.
