The Duffys Highlight Value of Family and American History in New YouTube Series

The summer vacation season may be winding down as we head towards Labor Day, but Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy’s new YouTube series, “The Great American Road Trip,” is just heating up.

Launched Wednesday, the six-episode adventure program is designed to help celebrate America’s 250th birthday by encouraging viewers to follow in the Duffy family’s footsteps as they journey from Washington, D.C., to New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Nashville, Charleston, New Orleans, Salt Lake City, Phoenix and Los Angeles – to name just a few of their stops.

“To love America you have to see America,” wrote Secretary Duffy in a post published on X. “There is no better way to celebrate 250 years of the greatest country on Earth than by taking a road trip with the people you love most. A road trip is a civic experience. America isn’t something you can understand through a phone screen. You have to get out and see it.”

Sean Duffy and his wife, Fox News host Rachel Campos-Duffy, have nine children – six daughters and three sons. Two of them are married, and the Duffys have two grandchildren.

Much of the press surrounding the Duffys’ new travelogue show has centered on government watchdogs making sure the show was produced in compliance with various ethics rules. The Department of Transportation has assured officials that no taxpayer dollars were used to film the program.

Families will inevitably resonate with the joys of exploring America together. While few might try and string together such an ambitious itinerary, many of us have wonderful memories of all types of road trips. Some of the more challenging trips – those involving traffic, heat, ornery children and even broken-down cars – nevertheless grow more enticing with the years. That might be what the Scottish poet Thomas Campbell was getting at when he observed, “Distance lends enchantment to the view.”

Viewers will enjoy the sights and family dynamics within the Duffy brood, but rather than concentrating on locations, Christian families will especially appreciate Secretary Duffy and his wife’s commitment to God’s gift of children.

In a recent interview, former congressman and current Secretary of Transportation Duffy advised, “Find love, pursue love, get married, have kids. You’re going to be more productive, you’ll make more money, you’ll be happier.”

Predictably, Rachel has shared one of a similar sentiment and conviction, suggesting that having children is the equivalent of receiving the greatest of all gifts.

“Being home with my children brought me joy and satisfaction, something daytime celebrity could not guarantee.” She then added, “I find myself looking around, trying harder to take in all the beautiful chaos and store the moments in [my] heart.”

Married for 27 years, the Duffys have long shared how their faith has been foundational to their relationship. Writing in a joint essay for Fox News back in 2022 for Valentine’s Day, they shared:

“Praying together, keeping our faith traditions and making God a part of our relationship keeps us stronger and focused on our ultimate goal — helping each other and our children get to heaven.”

Families looking to garner some ideas for a future trip will enjoy the online series. In announcing the series’ release, Secretary Duffy emphasized that when you’re traveling as a family, you’re not just making memories for your family, but also helping provide for other moms and dads by contributing to the economy.

“Travel is one of the nation’s largest industries, driving $3 trillion in economic output and supporting 15 million jobs nationwide,” Duffy wrote on X. “Communities in every corner of the country rely on these journeys to keep local diners full, small businesses thriving, and unique American regional heritages alive. Whether it’s an hour’s drive to a new mom-and-pop shop a few towns over or a cross-country journey to one of our incredible national parks, there’s a special adventure waiting around every corner.”
