Call to Action: Contact Texas Board of Education to Support Conservative Curriculum

The Texas State Board of Education is considering adopting important, new conservative curriculums that could benefit children statewide. The new curriculums would help counter the ongoing leftist-trend in public education occurring in states around the country.

Last year, the Texas state legislature passed HB 1605 which authorizes the creation of new instructional materials for state school districts.

HB 1605 does not mandate that local school districts utilize the curriculums, but it does offer districts that use them an additional $60 per pupil.

The Texas Board of Education created the new curriculums and instructional materials to provide a classical, broad-based liberal arts education. The revised materials feature patriotic symbolism, Old and New Testament references, and even recommended reading choices such as C.S. Lewis’ wonderful book, “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.”

Some state Republican lawmakers expressed support for the curriculums in a letter addressed to the state’s parents.

“The [bill and curriculums] will intentionally highlight materials that promote American patriotism, democracy, and guide students to become thoughtful, informed citizens in a free enterprise society, while preventing radical progressive ideologies from infiltrating our classrooms,” the lawmakers said.

Texas Values, a Focus on the Family-allied state family policy council, has created a video to counter several talking points the Left is using to oppose the new materials. You can watch their video below:

Now, the state Board of Education must adopt the new curriculums. The board will meet from Sept 10-13. That’s where you come in.

The Texas State Board of Education will soon be voting on whether to recommend the new curriculums – the first step toward getting the materials in schools. The board has reportedly received over 2,000 comments from liberal voices opposed to the new curriculums, while only 200 conservative supporters have commented!

Many of the liberal comments have allegedly come from individuals outside the state of Texas.

So, it’s up to conservatives – even outside Texas – to counter the wave of opposition to the new curriculums.

Though the public comment period has closed, your voice can still be heard. Please email [email protected] urging the Texas State Board of Education to “Please adopt HB 1605 curriculums without any amendments.” By doing so, you will contact all Texas State Board of Education members – so please be respectful, but direct.

California used to be the leading creator of school curriculums. But as the state has grown increasingly woke, other educators around the country are looking for alternatives. Now, conscientious citizens can help Texas become a leader in common sense, pro-American education.

In supporting the revised curriculum, Focus on the Family President Jim Daly said,

Christian citizens and concerned parents everywhere have a vested interest in seeing this Texas curriculum approved. It was G.K. Chesterton who wrote, “Education is simply the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to another.” We need to do our part to help make that transfer a success.

Please consider making your voice heard by contacting the Texas State Board of Education and expressing your support for the HB 1605 curriculums.
