Charitable Donations: Check This Watchlist Before Giving Any Money
The American Life League recently updated its watchlist, alerting Christians to nonprofit organizations that are not biblically aligned on the issues of life and human sexuality.
Christians should carefully consider where they contribute, and refrain from donating to organizations that are actively engaged in advancing a worldview that rejects the sanctity of human life and God’s design for men and women.
The American Life League (ALL) is a pro-life organization that has been advocating for preborn babies since its founding in 1979.
ALL developed this watchlist so that Christians will be better informed before donating to a nonprofit organization that is not aligned with their values.
Sadly, many long-standing charitable organizations have embraced the woke cultural agenda and simply can’t be trusted to use resources in a manner that is consistent with the Christian worldview.
ALL identifies organizations as green, yellow, or red on the watchlist to indicate their alignment with the Christian worldview on life and gender.
According to ALL, red signifies an organization that “supports in any way (theory, advocacy, lobbying, granting and/or research) any offenses to life… refuses to answer our inquires, refuses to be clear about its position, and/or attempts to couch its answer in terms of referring to another agency (i.e., federal government branches).”
Some well-known organizations are on the red list, including the Salvation Army, United Way, American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, YMCA, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The watchlist identifies what aspects of the organization are not aligned on life and human sexuality and also provides recommendations for other nonprofit organizations that do similar work.
For example, the Salvation Army is reported to support abortion and the “LGBTQ+ lifestyle.” The watchlist further explains that the Salvation Army fails to condemn abortion fully and provides “transgender” housing in Las Vegas. ALL recommends giving to Catholic charities instead.
United Way is on the watchlist because it donates directly to Planned Parenthood.
The American Red Cross is reported to “heavily” promote homosexuality and transgenderism through the organization’s website and social media, in addition to promoting abortion through its international affiliate, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent.
In Matthew 10:16, Jesus tells his disciples, “Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.”
As Christians consider year-end giving this month, let us be wise and discerning about the organizations we favor with our financial contributions.
We should ask where these organizations stand on the sanctity of human life and human sexuality. We should consider if they are aligned with a biblical worldview on life or are embracing and promoting a culture of death. We should investigate the corporate practices, policies and beliefs regarding human sexuality.
Followers of Jesus Christ are stewards of the Lord’s money, and one day, we will give an account of the way we used it. Let us be wise as serpents and innocent as doves as we serve others through our giving.
