Focus on the Family Announces Largest Pro-Life Event in its History: ALIVE 2020

Alive 2020

Following the overwhelming success of Alive from New York, Focus on the Family has just announced the second iteration of the event: ALIVE 2020.

On Saturday May 9, 2020 Focus on the Family will hold pro-life rallies in five different cities around the country. Appearing in Southern California, Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta and South Florida, the rallies will feature inspiring speakers and award-winning musicians. And just like Alive from New York, each city will have its own live 4D ultrasound of a baby in the third trimester.

The goal of the event is to celebrate life in the womb and help show the world what science confirms, pre-born babies are babies.

This event will build upon the massive success of Alive from New York. In May, over 20,000 pro-life supporters rallied in Times Square and witnessed a live 4D ultrasound of Abby Johnson’s baby, Fulton.

Alive from New York was birthed after the state passed one of the most radical pro-abortion laws in the country. State legislators passed a law allowing abortion up until the moment of birth if it benefits the “mother’s health.” As The Daily Citizen summed up the legislation, “Basically, this is abortion on demand at any point during pregnancy.”

Unfortunately, this year a wave of pro-abortion legislation passed through other state legislatures as well. Illinois, Maine, Nevada, Rhode Island and Vermont have passed laws expanding abortion rights. And who can forget the infanticidal comments of Virginia’s Gov. Ralph Northam. “The infant (with severe disabilities) would be delivered, the infant would be kept comfortable, the infant would be resuscitated if this is what the mother and the family desires, and then a discussion would ensue between the physician and the mother,” Gov. Northam said.

Thankfully, several states have responded with pro-life legislation of their own. Alabama became the first state to ball all abortions with no exceptions. Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi and Ohio passed Heartbeat Bills banning abortion after a baby’s heartbeat can be detected. Missouri passed a bill banning abortion after eight weeks of gestation. And Utah, Tennessee, North Dakota, Indiana and Arkansas all passed pro-life laws limiting abortion in some capacity.

It’s important to remember that practically every pro-life law passed in 2019 has been blocked in a federal court. This wave of pro-life legislation may give the U.S. Supreme Court an opportunity to revisit Roe v. Wade

Even a purple state like Colorado is attempting to become more pro-life. One of only seven states that allows abortion up until birth, activists in Colorado are looking to place a 22-week limit on abortion statewide. The Daily Citizen has covered this petition in the past.

In the press release announcing ALIVE 2020, Focus President Jim Daly said, “Alive from New York was life changing for those who were able to attend – hearts and minds were changed that day. ALIVE 2020 will be even more impactful, taking place in five major cities. We can’t wait for tens of thousands of people to join us on May 9, 2020 and see life clearly.”

As a part of the campaign to value every life, Focus on the Family also runs Option Ultrasound which to date has helped save over 425,000 babies from abortion. Option Ultrasound places ultrasounds in pregnancy centers around the country, helping women to see their baby and choose life.

With ALIVE 2020, next year looks to be a banner year for the pro-life movement. We hope you can participate in one of these exciting events.
