Hobby Lobby is spreading a Christmas message giving glory to Jesus Christ in newspapers across the country – continuing a tradition that began nearly 30 years ago.
The beautiful full-page Hobby Lobby ad features the words, “Glory to the Newborn King,” along with a Scripture verse from Isaiah 9:6:
“And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
“This ad serves as a reminder of the true meaning of Christmas and celebrates what millions of people around the world and for centuries have considered a turning point in human history – the birth of Jesus Christ,” Hobby Lobby said in a press release.
“As with previous ads, Hobby Lobby partners with Need Him Ministry to invite anyone who would like to know Jesus as Lord and Savior to contact chataboutjesus.com. The ad also offers a free Bible for mobile devices at mardel.com/bible.”

The story behind the faith-based Hobby Lobby ads began on Christmas Day 1997, when the company’s founder and president David Green “was reading the Christmas advertisements, including those for his own store, and he felt commissioned by God to do something different.”
In response, Green created a simple newspaper ad the following year that read:
As you celebrate this Christmas season in the warmth of family and home, may you be drawn to the Savior; He who left the beauty of Heaven on our behalf and became like us, that we might become like Him. If you know Jesus as your Savior, then this season already has a special meaning. If you do not, we encourage you find a Bible-believing church in your community, and to discover a relationship this Christmas with the God who loves you more than you can begin to imagine.
Now, Hobby Lobby places full-page faith-based ads in newspapers three times a year to celebrate the real meaning of Christmas, Easter and Independence Day.
The company has compiled all the ads it has done since Easter 1997, which you can view here.
An evangelical Christian, David Green has been actively involved in promoting Christian causes for decades.
The Green family took their company all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court in 2014, leading to the landmark decision in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby Stores. The Supreme Court decided in favor of Hobby Lobby in a 5-4 vote, striking down the Obama administration’s “contraceptive mandate” for faith-based companies that did not want to provide coverage for contraception in their healthcare plans.
The Green family also provided much of the funding for the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C.
On its website, Hobby Lobby says it is committed to the following values:
- Honoring the Lord in all we do by operating the company in a manner consistent with Biblical principles.
- Offering our customers exceptional selection and value.
- Serving our employees and their families by establishing a work environment and company policies that build character, strengthen individuals, and nurture families.
- Providing a return on the family’s investment, sharing the Lord’s blessings with our employees, and investing in our community.
In a time when nearly all large companies promote ideas and ideologies contrary to biblical values, it’s refreshing to see Hobby Lobby stay true to its mission and calling – giving glory to Jesus Christ along the way.
