Mainstream Media Outlets Shamefully Silent on Horrific Murder of Five-Year-Old Cannon Hinnant

Cannon Hinnant was a friendly five-year-old who loved to play with the neighborhood Chihuahua, Nick. That is until 25-year-old Darius Sessoms allegedly shot him in the back of the head at point-blank range while he played outside his home in Wilson, North Carolina. Cannon was later pronounced dead.

The shooting occurred at around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, according to Newsweek. Sessoms fled the scene and was later arrested in Greensboro, North Carolina with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service’s Carolinas Violent Fugitive Task Force, Goldsboro police and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department. Newsweek also reports that Sessoms was not released on bond.

“Everyone is crying,” Consuela Groves, a grandmother who lived next door to Cannon, said. Groves is the owner of Nick and said her Chihuahua wouldn’t play with any other toddler other than Cannon.

The mainstream media has been astonishingly silent on this horrific murder.

A search done by The Daily Citizen of the name, “Cannon Hinnant,” revealed zero, repeat, zero, search results on the major news outlets of The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, CNN, MSNBC, Reuters, NBC, ABC and CBS.

A search on Fox News brought up one story about Cannon.

It’s up for speculation as to why the mainstream media has been nearly completely silent on the shooting.

Prominent conservative Matt Walsh believes it is due, in part, to the fact that Cannon Hinnant was white, while Darius Sessoms is black.

“The name Cannon Hinnant would be known across the country, and the name Darius Sessoms reviled the world over, if the races were reversed. A story of a white man running up to a black child and executing him while he rode his bike would be front page news for weeks. And there would almost certainly be rioting, spurned on in part by the incessant coverage. Instead, this story has gotten almost no coverage by the American national media,” Walsh wrote in a recent op-ed in The Daily Wire.

No matter the reason, it’s sure that Cannon Hinnant’s execution deserves far more news coverage than it has received.

True justice and equality should mean that every life matters, regardless of race.

It’s shameful when the mainstream media ignores what should be a massive, national story, potentially because it may not fit into their pre-chosen narrative.

Newsweek also reports that Sessoms was charged with first-degree murder and not released on bond.
