New ‘Business Bible’ Reveals ‘Timeless Principles’ About Work and Finance in Scripture
Most people alive today remember, and will never forget, the Global Financial Crisis.
The Great Recession was marked by a substantial economic contraction, skyrocketing unemployment, falling markets, millions of foreclosures, and profound financial hardship for nearly all Americans.
After heading to Wall Street at the age of 25, Nicholas Leone had experienced multiple recessions in just 15 years: the sovereign debt crisis, the Dot-Com Bubble, and the Global Financial Crisis.
He started his first hedge fund at the age of 40 in January 2007 – right before the Global Financial Crisis hit. He had done work with firms like AIG, Goldman Sachs, and Merrill, all companies that were at the heart of the crisis.
In an interview with The Daily Citizen, Leone said the Global Financial Crisis was the last straw. He realized there had to be a better way to do business.
“It was very serious. The stock market collapsed. The economy went into a long recession. Financial institutions went bankrupt. People lost their life savings and their homes and their jobs. And Wall Street was not providing any clear guidance as to the future, and neither was the Church,” Leone said.
“The Church really wasn’t speaking into the greatest financial crisis of our day.”
Leone has studied both theology and business, attending Harvard Business School, Gordon College and Fuller Seminary. He’s now earning his doctorate in economics and theology.
The multiple crises caused Leone to go back and do what he loved to do most: search the Scriptures for principles to help him navigate the economy.
Leone discovered that the Bible is “full of principles for business that are recognized as best practices today.”
Now, Leone’s research has become The Business Bible.
“The Bible is the first and only book to record all the principles essential for business, navigating the economy and investing. Everything you need to know about business is in the Bible waiting to be discovered,” the website for the book states.
The Business Bible is filled with “articles, case studies and exclusive videos that highlight the principles and reveal God’s Plan” for business.
To create the book, Leone went through all 33,000 verses of Scripture and catalogued which ones related to business.
The Business Bible is the “Gold-letter edition” of Scripture, where the principles of business are in gold leaf.
“It’s a very practical tool for businessmen and women to become better businessmen and women, and live out their faith in the workplaces,” Leone told us. “Whether you’re a believer or not, these principles are best practices.”
Even though the book is related specifically to business, its audience is “every man and woman who works,” Leone said. “It’s a tool for everybody.”
“Our core audience is men and women of faith. However, anyone who would never read the Bible, but is a businessperson, I would love for them to pick up a copy. It will speak to their work. Anyone who wants to be a better businessperson or investor should read The Business Bible.”
The Business Bible is currently available for pre-order and will be published on September 1, 2022.
Leone said his goal for the book is to “bring the Bible into the mainstream marketplace and speak the common language of the businessman and woman and empower both people of faith and people in the marketplace with the word of God.”
