Benjamin Watson, star tight end for the New England Patriots, is wading into filmmaking by producing a new documentary on abortion. The documentary will be called “Divided Hearts of America,” where he will interview both pro-life and pro-choice advocates. Watson is an unapologetic pro-life warrior and has been very outspoken in defense of life.

The Hollywood Reporter noted that the documentary will feature Secretary of Health and Human Services Ben Carson, and Alveda King, the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Both are champions for life in the womb. It is being produced for less than $1 million and is funded both by donors and Watson’s own charity, the One More Foundation.

In a statement to The Daily Caller, Watson said, “With so much opinion, emotion and confusion surrounding this issue, this documentary is my search to discover truth. I’m excited to share this film, these voices, and these powerful stories and how they have challenged and in some cases affirmed my convictions. We must get this right; the future of our republic depends on it.”

Watson also expressed what he hopes to accomplish with the documentary. “Things are at a fever pitch. My goal is to unveil the truth about abortion, the laws, the history and where our country is headed. I believe in the sanctity of life, be it in the womb or on your deathbed. That’s my conviction. But with the film, I’ll engage those who disagree and hear their reasoning. The No. 1 thing I’m looking for is empathy on both sides,” he added.

Ben Watson appeared at Alive from New York last year, Focus on the Family’s massive pro-life event held in New York City. He’s also spoken at the March for Life saying, “We as men must stand up for the lives of the innocent, and their mothers in crisis. As important as women have been in championing this cause, you men, us men must rise up and lead the charge. Men, we can be silent no more.”

Watson will be retiring from the NFL after this year’s Super Bowl, but as he told The Blaze, “This documentary is my first foray into filmmaking, but hopefully not my last.”
