We Were all Lied to and We Responded
We have all been lied to, layer upon layer upon layer. Time after time after time.
Much of it has come from media elites. It has come from certain politicians, your extended family and neighbors. Unfortunately, it has, perhaps, even come from your own children. We know. We have experienced it ourselves.
You have been lied to about the kind of person you are, and your supposed lack of compassion. Your lack of intelligence. They have hectored you about the apparent lack of consistency with your own faith, regularly being lectured in that regard by people who actually despise what you believe.
You were lied to about the values you hold. But you are not bigoted. You are not hateful or close-minded. That is the lie they want you to believe. Reject the messaging.
You simply believe what Jesus taught, what He loves and intentionally created in this beautiful thing we call basic biology and the natural family. You are not anti-woman or anti-women’s “healthcare.” You just refuse to deny that fertility is life’s richest blessing and one of the most powerful gifts women give to the world.
You were lied to about your concern for your children’s education. Government leaders called you a security threat and took legal action against some of you. Many called you dangerous book-banners. Others called you sexually repressed and narrow-minded. “Hateful” was liberally thrown about like confetti.
But when some of you brave parents read aloud explicit sections from these very books at school board meetings, you were shut down, and with all irony, told that you were out of line for bringing public attention to that which they were trying hide and force upon your children. Your concern for your children and their friends was ruthlessly weaponized against you.
You do well to recognize all of this as a profound evil, for that is exactly what it is. A deceptive overturning of nature itself.
You were lied to about your political and candidate choices. You were gas-lit 24-7. Words like “fascist,” “Nazi,” “garbage,” “hater,” “racist,” “xenophobe,” “patriarchal” and “toxic” were and are regularly used to describe you without hesitation. You were told you are the wrong kind of man or woman simply because you refuse to stop being what God created you to be. And all this happened under the false banner of love, joy, tolerance and inclusion.
They encouraged your wife to deceive you and see you as a bully. They told you your husband is bad just because he is a strong, hard-working man who seeks to lead and defend his family. They tried to get him to deny his masculinity, gentlemanly manners and protective instinct.
You have experienced these lies so many times they have come to feel normal. They certainly are not. Believing this is a lie.
They told you your patriotism was a dog-whistle for institutional racism and white-supremacy. They told you your common-sense conviction about secure borders is vile prejudice and lacks compassion.
You know we are a nation of laws, and you want those laws enforced. Your immigrant friends and neighbors who worked hard and came here legally, which is really each of our family stories if we go back far enough, agree. But we are told this belief is wrong. It is not. It is virtuous.
The lies got so bad, so brazen and so manipulative that even old-school progressives started reacting against them. They took action. Here is just one example.
Evolutionary biologist Colin Wright, a man who has little patience for any Christian belief, noticed it, publicly rebuked it and is now incorrectly smeared as a right-wing conservative by those telling these lies.
He has expressed this curious ironic shift here in a famous diagram you have likely seen.
Good citizens, resist the lies. Know that you are not what they say about you. Stand bold and unapologetic for what you know to be true, good and beautiful. So many spoke up silently on Tuesday and the sound of that principled action is deafening to the lies we have all been told.
Famed Soviet dissident Alexandr Solzhenitsyn was correct in his famed essay Live Not By Lies when he proclaimed to his fellow countrymen living under the tyranny and lies of Soviet Communism,
We have been lied to. The most powerful thing we can do is reject and renounce each and every lie. Millions upon millions of good citizens did precisely that this week with their vote and the world heard it.
God bless America and the hard-fought freedoms we have to lovingly, but forcefully, speak truth over lies.
