Sen. Josh Hawley Unveils ‘Declaration for Life’
U.S. Senator Josh Hawley, R-Mo., released a new “Declaration for Life” with Missouri pastors and Christian leaders on Wednesday, emphasizing each human being’s unalienable right to life.
After the first annual Missouri Prayer Breakfast, Sen. Hawley unveiled the declaration, “Declaration for Life: A statement from Christian Leaders at America’s 250th Anniversary,” at a press conference.
“This Declaration for Life, written by pastors, is calling on everyday Christians across America to stand for life and confront the scourge of chemical abortion,” Sen. Hawley said in a statement.
It affirms that Christian pastors and leaders have an obligation to remind Americans what Scripture affirms: “Every human being, from the moment of our knitting together in our mothers’ wombs, was fearfully and wonderfully made.”
“It is the first duty of the Church to defend human dignity where it is denied,” the declaration proclaims.
“Our assertion of human dignity is not novel. Christians have emphasized it since the days of Christ’s ministry, beginning with the believers in ancient Rome and Greece who walked out of pagan cities to gather newborns abandoned to die. Human life is the gift of God, from conception until natural death. Every human power must respect it.”
It also calls on Congress to ban the chemical abortion drug, mifepristone. The vast majority of abortions today are done with the abortion pill.
Sen. Hawley introduced legislation earlier this year to ban mifepristone and empower women harmed by the drug to sue its manufacturers.
According to a study released last year, a staggering 10.93% of women who take the abortion pill experience a serve adverse event, including sepsis, infection, hemorrhaging or another serious complication.
“We want to call on lawmakers from both parties to sign this Declaration and support protecting human life in law,” Hawley said. “It’s time to take a vote on my legislation to ban the chemical abortion drug mifepristone.”
The declaration comes on the year of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, which proclaims every person’s unalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
The declaration also comes four years after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and returned the issue of abortion back to the people and their elected representatives in state legislatures and Congress.
Since the Court’s 2022 Dobbs decision, at least 21 states now permit late-term abortions up until the moment of birth.
Massachusetts recently enacted a radical law legalizing all late-term abortions. New Jersey also recently passed legislation that may outlaw prayer and protests at abortion clinics.
Despite numerous states continuing to go in the wrong direction on the abortion issue, the fight for life continues. It’s up to each pro-life supporter to do what they can to support life.

“To whom much is given, much will be required,” the declaration concludes. “America has been given much.”
“May God grant us the wisdom to discern what is true, the courage to say what is true, and the love to live what is true — until He comes, or until He calls us home.”
