After appearing in a viral video touting the use of hydroxychloroquine to treat the novel coronavirus, Dr. Simone Gold, a physician based in Los Angeles, says she has been fired from her job solely for appearing in the video.

In an interview with Tucker Carlson on Fox News, Dr. Gold said on Thursday evening, “I’m a board-certified emergency physician for 20 years, and in fact, it seems like until five minutes ago I was considered a hero and people would be clapping and glad that I was doing what I was doing, and then the video came out and I was summarily fired for appearing in what was told to me is an embarrassing video.”

“Governors are empowering pharmacies to overrule doctors who have had conversations with their patients, it’s something America should be alarmed about,” Dr. Gold added.

The debate over the relative effectiveness and safety of hydroxychloroquine is still a hotly debated topic.

The viral video was created by America’s Frontline Doctors, a group of physicians who believe that the novel coronavirus is highly treatable, especially with hydroxychloroquine. Dr. Simone Gold founded the organization, which has as its purpose the goal of promoting hydroxychloroquine to “empower Americans to stop living in fear” of COVID-19

The video quickly racked up over 17 million views on Facebook alone, prior to the company taking it down.

In the video, one of the doctors called hydroxychloroquine a “cure” for the novel coronavirus, which seems to have contributed to the big tech companies’ decision to remove it.

The Daily Citizen previously reported on Facebook, Twitter and Google’s decision to censor the content.

The website for America’s Frontline Doctors was also taken down by the company Squarespace, though a new website for the group seems to be up and running.
