Hollywood Holds Pointless Pro-Abortion Fundraiser

Pro-abortion advocates are seemingly prone to mass hysteria. Case in point, Hollywood director Judd Apatow and the Largo at the Coronet in Los Angeles are holding a benefit for Planned Parenthood. Why? It’s because “the Trump-Pence administration is trying to restrict access to birth control…AGAIN” (their emphasis).
This is a ridiculous and unnecessary event on multiple levels.
For one, the Trump-Pence administration is not trying to restrict access to birth control. That’s not what is actually happening. The recent Department of Health and Human Services announcement last week only allows organizations and certain companies with strongly held religious and/or moral beliefs to opt out of providing certain contraception services.
HHS determined that this decision will likely impact only a small number of the 165 million women in the United States, and only a small percentage of those women impacted would probably even care. If you work for a Christian-run organization, usually most people agree with their company’s philosophy at some level and won’t demand access for something like the morning-after pill. This is not to say that there aren’t some outliers, but most probably agree with certain contraception restrictions.
It’s a logical conclusion that Apatow Productions, Judd’s company, won’t be affected by this new mandate since he holds the belief that women will “suffer” without access to birth control. This new mandate isn’t a threat and a fundraising event isn’t needed.
The other problem with this event is that it is raising funds directly for Planned Parenthood and seemingly for the organization’s contraception services. Since the early 1990s, contraception has gone from a high of almost 60% of their business to a low of 28%. Contraception isn’t a big part of Planned Parenthood’s business anymore. Fundraising for it is completely unnecessary.
It’s not just contraception either. A variety of services offered at Planned Parenthood have suffered the effects of neglect. From pap smears and breast exams, to prenatal care and midlife clients, general healthcare for women and families is no longer the focus of the organization.
The decline is not because of a lack of funding—Planned Parenthood has plenty. In fact, the only areas where Planned Parenthood is currently seeing triple digit increases are for STD testing and treatment and abortion. It’s also wise to note that abortion is one of the only treatments where the state or federal government usually doesn’t provide reimbursement. Every abortion is cash in Planned Parenthood’s pocket.
Finally, this event is completely unnecessary since last year Planned Parenthood raked in almost $1.5 billion dollars, including half a billion in private contributions. For the last decade, the annual revenue has exceeded more than $13 billion. Money is not an issue, and fundraising is a waste of time.
Judd Apatow’s Largo at the Coronet is a completely pointless event and reeks of liberal and pro-abortion hysteria about supposed restrictions on women’s healthcare. It’s an event designed to raise money for a multi-billion dollar corporation, and where the “special guests” that most people are probably paying to see can cancel at any time.
If you would like to actually be productive with your time and money this holiday season, make a difference by donating to help victims of the California wildfires, or Focus on the Family, or pack an Operation Christmas Child shoebox. This event is only meant to shore up a fake “healthcare” organization that’s more interested in maintaining its political power and money than in treating patients.
’Tis the season for holiday reading!
