Kanye West Says He Considered Aborting His Child – Family Is Worried about His Mental Health
Kanye West, a presidential candidate from the Birthday Party, held a campaign rally in South Carolina last weekend where he admitted that he and his then-girlfriend, Kim Kardashian, considered aborting their first child, North. As a result of that event and a series of tweets made by West the following day, there are media reports that the Kardashian family remains concerned over West’s mental health.
During his first campaign event, West shared some of his platform as president, including free marijuana and giving families a million dollars for every child born. But it was his pro-life stance that made waves across various media outlets.
At the time of North’s conception, West was a rapper and living that lifestyle, with, in his words, multiple girlfriends, including his most famous, Kim Kardashian, whom he married in 2014 after the birth of their daughter in 2013. When she told him she was pregnant, they considered an abortion.
“She had the pills in her hands, where you take it, it’s a wrap. The baby’s gone,” West said. “So, I was sitting up in Paris…and I got my laptop up with all my creative ideas. I got my shoes, I got my next album cover, I got communities, I got clothes and all this, and the screen went black and white and God said, ‘If you’re going to f— with my vision, I’m going to f— with yours.’ And I called my wife, and she said, ‘We’re going to have this baby.’ And I said, ‘We’re going to have this child.’”
“I know people that are 50 years old that didn’t have the children, that didn’t have that child and that have never got to experience the level of joy that I experienced from having a child. So even if my wife were to divorce me after this speech, she brought North into the world even when I didn’t want to. She stood up and protected that child.”
He goes on to talk about how his mother saved his life from abortion when his dad wanted the same thing. After becoming emotional, he exclaimed, “I almost killed my daughter. I almost killed my daughter.”
Some are considering that West may be having a manic episode. West was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2018. He continued with numerous tweets after the rally.
Though many have since been deleted, one said, “Kim was trying to fly to Wyoming with a doctor to lock me up like on the movie Get Out because I cried about saving my daughter’s life yesterday.”
He also stated that none of the West children would be in Playboy Magazine, which his wife posed for several years before their marriage.
One source told People Magazine, “Kim is shocked that Kanye spoke about North at the rally. She is furious that he shared something so private,” which is somewhat ironic since the Kardashians as a family have made hundreds of millions of dollars by living their lives in front of the camera.
Page Six has said, “Kim is mortified. She has desperately been trying to help Kanye, keep him calm, and prevent him from having any public meltdowns. The family believe he is having a bipolar episode. He won’t take medications because he feels they make him less creative. But [to] go out and say that about [their eldest daughter] North is shocking. Kim is devastated. She’s worked so hard to help him, but she won’t let him do this to their children.”
“Daily Show” host Trevor Noah said, “Honestly, guys, I don’t know what to make of this. Because my takeaway from this event is that Kanye West doesn’t seem well. I feel like someone who cares about him needs to take his microphone away. Although ironically, the best person for that job is Kanye.”
Bipolar disorder is a serious condition that results in a manic-depressive illness “that causes unusual shifts in mood, energy, activity levels, concentration, and the ability to carry out day-to-day tasks.”
Though it is possible that West is in the middle of a manic episode, some of the statements he made could also be considered the reflections of a man who is disappointed with some of his past actions and passionate about the beauty of life and family.
