Most Pro-Abortion Campaign in History? Abortion Activists Celebrate Kamala Harris’ Pick as VP Candidate
On August 10, presidential candidate Joe Biden announced that Senator Kamala Harris would be joining his ticket, pushing his candidacy in a pro-abortion direction.
As Alexandra DeSanctis of National Review has said, “She is without question the most radically pro-abortion candidate to run for president or vice president in the history of the country.”
Senator Harris rose to prominence through her role as the District Attorney for San Francisco, before becoming the Golden State’s Attorney General. In 2016, Harris ran for the Senate seat vacated by Barbara Boxer, winning against Loretta Sanchez. Her pick as the running mate for Biden is historic as the first woman of color.
She’s known for her progressive politics, especially when it comes to abortion.
Planned Parenthood Action, the abortion business’ lobbying arm, tweeted in response to the Biden campaign’s decision, “YES! This is HUGE! With Senator Kamala Harris, we know which ticket won’t stop fighting for our reproductive rights. It’s time for real leadership…There’s no doubt Kamala Harris will play a vital role in defeating Donald Trump. Let everyone know who you’re with in this fight.”
Alexis McGill Johnson, the president and CEO of Planned Parenthood, also tweeted her support, saying, “Kamala Harris as the vice-presidential pick is a powerful, historic move. Joe Biden’s selection of Harris is invigorating for our movement and Planned Parenthood patients. We’re thrilled she’ll be joining the presidential ticket that will defeat Donald Trump.”
Radical pro-abortion group NARAL posted, “We have the opportunity not just to course correct, but to change the course of history. That starts with electing Kamala Harris, the first woman to serve as vice president—someone who understands that reproductive freedom is a fundamental freedom.”
Actress Alyssa Milano, who’s become a prominent and vocal pro-abortion advocate in recent years, wrote rather derisively, “That Kamala/Pence debate is going to be weird. He doesn’t like to speak to women directly without Mother present, right?”
A video clip of Harris questioning now-Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanagh during the confirmation hearing is also circling. She asks, “Can you think of any laws that give the government the power to make decisions about the male body?” A thinly veiled abortion-related question.
As a Senator, she has also introduced the Women’s Health Protection Act. It’s a radical piece of legislation that would remove all state protections for preborn babies in the third trimester.
Perhaps the best evidence is how Harris has handled the David Daleiden case.
In 2015, David Daleiden and the Center for Medical Progress released several undercover videos allegedly showing Planned Parenthood employees profiting off the sale of aborted preborn remains for medical experiments. While it is legal to recoup the cost of storing and transporting the remains, it is illegal to profit from it.
Serving as California’s Attorney General at the time, Harris led the charge against Daleiden.
As part of the “investigation,” Harris authorized a raid of Daleiden’s home. Authorities seized his laptop and multiple hard drives, some of which included videos that had not been released to the public at the time.
The State of California has never investigated Planned Parenthood for wrongdoing, with its sole focus instead being on Daleiden and the Center for Medical Progress.
In fact, in May 2020 Daleiden and his team announced that they were suing Planned Parenthood, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra and Kamala Harris for “conspiracy to violate First and Fourteenth Amendment civil rights.”
Daleiden has stated, “Lots of people are asking me what I think of the news tonight—Kamala Harris is the greatest threat to First Amendment civil rights our country has ever seen. I know because she had my home raided for speaking the truth about her political patrons at Planned Parenthood.”
