Sunday night, the Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Van Jefferson went to bed with much more than a Super Bowl win; he also welcomed a healthy son to the world with his wife Samaria just hours after the big game.

Jefferson, a second-year wide receiver with the Rams, caught four passes for 23 yards in Sunday’s game.

Halfway through the game, his wife, who wasn’t due to have the baby until later in the week, went into labor.

In an interview with The Athletic prior to the Super Bowl, Samaria said that she was “definitely feeling 40 weeks” pregnant but that she would be at the game and “would not miss it for the world.” Speaking of her husband playing in the Super Bowl, she said, “I want to see him glorify God on the field that day.”

Jefferson didn’t learn that Samaria had gone into labor until after the game but rushed to be with her as soon as he heard. Later that night, he posted a picture holding his newborn son.

The high school sweethearts already share a beautiful 5-year-old daughter named Bella. In fact, the Friday night before the Super Bowl, Jefferson and Bella attended their very first “daddy-daughter” dance at the child’s school.

Jefferson and his wife are Christians and proudly share their faith on social media – thanking God for His favor to their family. Jefferson’s Instagram account reads “God First” and cites James 4:6 – a verse that reminds us that God opposes the proud and shows favor to the humble. Jefferson also recently posted a prayer he gave before a game in which he asks for God’s help to play to the best of his ability and then acknowledges God’s authority over all things as he prays, “You are the Lord of Lords, You are the King of Kings.” Amen!

Thank you for your Christian witness, Jefferson family. Congratulations on your new son! Praying God’s blessings over your growing family.
