President Trump Signs Proclamation Commemorating Anti-Communism Week
President Trump declared the first-ever Anti-Communism Week, commemorating the millions of lives lost to “one of history’s most destructive ideologies.”
The president signed a proclamation, “Anti-Communism Week, 2025,” on November 7 to mark the National Day for the Victims of Communism.
“Across continents and generations, communism has wrought devastation upon nations and souls,” the proclamation states.
“More than 100 million lives have been taken by regimes that sought to erase faith, suppress freedom, and destroy prosperity earned through hard work, violating the God-given rights and dignity of those they oppressed.”
“As we honor their memory, we renew our national promise to stand firm against communism, to uphold the cause of liberty and human worth, and to affirm once more that no system of government can ever replace the will and conscience of a free people.”
On November 13, the U.S. Department of State thanked the president for signing the proclamation in a post on X.
Thank you @POTUS for establishing the first-ever Anti-Communism Week to renew our national promise of standing firm against the poison of communism.

It’s a fact of life that ideas have consequences. Bad ideas – like communism – have bad consequences.
On March 5, 1946, the great British Prime Minister Winston Churchill delivered his famous “Sinews of Peace” (“Iron Curtain”) speech at Westminster College. In it, he warned against two great “marauders” of peace and security: war and tyranny.
“Now I come to the second danger of these two marauders which threatens the cottage, the home, and the ordinary people – namely, tyranny,” Churchill said. “We cannot be blind to the fact that the liberties enjoyed by individual citizens throughout the British Empire are not valid in a considerable number of countries.”
He added,
Tragically, the reality Churchill describes remains true today in communist nations like China, Venezuela, North Korea, Cuba, Vietnam and Loas.
In China alone, an estimated 65 million Chinese died in the 20th century as a result of Mao Zedong’s attempts to create a “socialist” China.
“We must never cease to proclaim in fearless tones the great principles of freedom and the rights of man … [which] find their most famous expression in the American Declaration of Independence,” Churchill declared.
Today, it’s up to each of us to learn about the danger communism poses to human lives. Then, we must do our part to inform and educate others about communism, its inherent problems, and why the ideology will always pose a great threat to human life, freedom and liberty.
The importance of this responsibility is even more apparent because socialism and communism are quickly gaining popularity.
According to a March 2025 Cato/YouGov survey, 62% of adults under age 30 have a favorable view of socialism, and 34% hold favorable views of communism.
That frightening data needs to change – and fast.
