The Deeper Meaning of Easter

Empty tomb

Today is Easter. This holiday don’t mean much for a lot of families. It’s just another warm spring day where kids get all the candy they want and hunt for colorful eggs.

There’s a deeper significance to this day that many people overlook. I remember years ago, back when video stores were still around. My wife and I went looking for a well-known film that told the story of Easter. We couldn’t find it on the shelf, so we asked the young lady behind the counter if they had it available. She pointed us to several kids’ videos that explained how to decorate eggs. We said, “No, we’re looking for a video about the real story of Easter.”

Judging by the confused look on her face, she had no idea what we were talking about.

A lot of people seem confused about the true message of Easter. The deeper meaning has been lost behind cute bunny rabbits and mountains of chocolate.

Easter is one of my favorite holidays because it’s the foundation of Christianity – God saving humanity in a way it could never save itself. It’s about life overcoming death and setting our futures on a positive course. It’s about filling our lives with genuine hope!

If you’re not acquainted with God’s promises of abundant life,  I encourage you to enjoy Focus on the Family’s free online booklet called, “Coming Home: An Invitation to Join God’s Family.” The question of where you’ll spend eternity is too big to leave unanswered. We’d like to help you discover God’s truth for your life.
