Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy Pledge to Finally Defund Planned Parenthood
After years of politicians promising to defund Planned Parenthood – the abortion giant responsible for the deaths of nearly 400,000 preborn children annually – the organization may finally have met its match.
Planned Parenthood, meet Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy.
They are the new leaders of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which will be formally established once President-elect Donald J. Trump is inaugurated as the 47th president on January 20, 2025.
In the announcement appointing Musk and Ramaswamy to DOGE, the president-elect said,
Trump added,
After their appointments, Musk and Ramaswamy co-authored an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal laying out their plan for government reform.
When it comes to Planned Parenthood funding, the pair said that President-elect Trump could consider using executive action – instead of seeking Congress’ approval – to defund Planned Parenthood:
Congress appropriates roughly $700 million to Planned Parenthood each year through government grants from the Department of Health and Human Services and Medicaid reimbursements.
According to the abortion giant’s most recently published annual report,
- Planned Parenthood performed 392,715 abortions in 2021-22 – an increase of over 18,000 (5%) from the previous year, and an increase of 20% over the past 10 reports.
- The number of patients (2.05 million) decreased by 80,000 from the previous year.
- In 2021-22, abortions made up 97.1% of Planned Parenthood’s pregnancy resolution services, while prenatal services, miscarriage care, and adoption referrals accounted for only 1.6% (6,316), 0.9% (3,604), and 0.4% (1,721), respectively.
- For every adoption referral in 2021-22, Planned Parenthood performed 228 abortions. Over the past 10 annual reports, the ratio was approximately 134 abortions for every one adoption referral.
Additionally, its report disclosed that abortion remains a big and profitable business for Planned Parenthood, even though it’s an allegedly “nonprofit” organization.
- Planned Parenthood reported nearly $2.1 billion in income and over $2.5 billion in net assets.
- Taxpayer funding to Planned Parenthood hit an all-time high of $699.3 million – making up 34% of the organization’s overall revenue.
- Planned Parenthood’s excess of total revenue over total expenses (i.e. profit) is $178.6 million. Last year, the abortion giant reported an excess of total revenue over total expenses of $204.7 million.
The Hyde Amendment is a longstanding federal provision that bans taxpayer dollars from directly funding abortions. However, money is fungible, so Planned Parenthood’s nearly $700 million in annual revenue certainly helps the abortion giant kill children.
We sincerely hope and pray that Musk and Ramaswamy will use their influence to help defund Planned Parenthood. If they do, they will help President Trump accomplish something pro-life politicians have been promising for decades – and failed to deliver on.
President Trump was widely considered the “most pro-life president in American history” during his first term. Please pray that he will have the courage to follow through on Musk and Ramaswamy’s recommendations and defund Planned Parenthood once and for all through legislation, or executive action.
