Abortion Remains Highly Profitable Business for Planned Parenthood, New Annual Report Shows
For Planned Parenthood – a supposed “nonprofit organization” – abortion is a big and profitable business.
The abortion giant recently released its Annual Report 2022-2023, revealing it performed nearly 400,000 abortions in 2021-2022. Planned Parenthood’s services data lags behind the rest of the information in its report.
Abortion
The Charlotte Lozier Institute, a pro-life research organization, analyzed Planned Parenthood’s new “Above & Beyond” annual report and publicized the following:
- Planned Parenthood performed 392,715 abortions in 2021-22 – an increase of over 18,000 (5%) from the previous year, and an increase of 20% over the past 10 reports.
- The number of patients (2.05 million) decreased by 80,000 from the previous year.
- In 2021-22, abortions made up 97.1% of Planned Parenthood’s pregnancy resolution services, while prenatal services, miscarriage care, and adoption referrals accounted for only 1.6% (6,316), 0.9% (3,604), and 0.4% (1,721), respectively.
- For every adoption referral in 2021-22, Planned Parenthood performed 228 abortions. Over the past 10 annual reports, the ratio was approximately 134 abortions for every one adoption referral.
Other Services
Additionally, the Charlotte Lozier Institute noted that, according to data from Planned Parenthood’s own annual reports, since 2010:
- Total services are down 17.0%.
- Total cancer screening and prevention services have dropped by 71%, including declines of 72% for breast exams and 74% for pap tests.
- Prenatal services are down 80% from their peak in 2009.
- Contraceptive services are down 39%.
This data shows that Planned Parenthood continues to cut down on actual health care for women, while claiming that taking the lives of children is “health care.”
Over the past few years, Planned Parenthood has also begun promoting transgender medical interventions. Dozens of Planned Parenthood clinics now dispense puberty blocking drugs and opposite-sex hormones to men and women to make them appear more like the opposite sex.
According to its annual report, 45 Planned Parenthood affiliates offered transgender medical interventions in 2022.
Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest (PPPS) – a regional affiliate of Planned Parenthood – began offering transgender medical interventions in 2019. Since then, their transgender business has “grown at an incredible pace.”
PPPS alone has tripled the number of visits from people seeking puberty blocking drugs and opposite sex hormones from 800 in 2021 to over 2,500 in 2023.
Financials
Despite being a nonprofit organization, and regularly begging for their private and public funding to increase, Planned Parenthood continues to rake in hundreds of millions of dollars in cash, especially from abortion. The organization disclosed the following financial information in its 2022-2023 annual report:
- Planned Parenthood reported nearly $2.1 billion in income and over $2.5 billion in net assets.
- Taxpayer funding hit an all-time high of $699.3 million – making up 34% of the organization’s overall revenue.
- Planned Parenthood’s excess of total revenue over total expenses (i.e. profit) is $178.6 million. Last year, the abortion giant reported an excess of total revenue over total expenses of $204.7 million.
Added together, Planned Parenthood has made a staggering $383.3 million in profit in just the last two years.
According to its most recently filed Form 990, Planned Parenthood president Alexis McGill Johnson earned $717,370 in FY 2022 despite working just 35 hours per week.
After the report was released, the Daily Citizen spoke with Robyn Chambers, Vice President of Advocacy for Children at Focus on the Family, who lauded the work of pregnancy resource centers as an alternative to Planned Parenthood.
“While Planned Parenthood continues to sell one thing, death, pregnancy centers across the nation don’t sell anything!” Chambers said, adding,
These centers are on the front-line serving women with life-affirming, true medical care and they do not make any money for any service they provide.
Often the woman doesn’t have to wait days to be seen and she will receive all the resources she needs to make a decision for life. Those services include a pregnancy test, ultrasound, and counseling and all for no cost. That’s true empowerment for women.
