House Passes ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act,’ Finally Defunding Planned Parenthood

The U.S. House of Representatives has passed the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” (H.R. 1), cutting taxes on American families, defunding Planned Parenthood for one year, and providing billions for border security and defense.
The House narrowly passed the bill in a 218-214 vote on Thursday afternoon, sending the legislation to President Trump’s desk for his signature.

For the pro-life movement, the bill represents a historic win. The bill defunds Planned Parenthood, our nation’s largest abortion seller, of roughly $500 million in taxpayer dollars.
Despite demands from pro-life supporters for years, Congress has continually permitted Planned Parenthood to receive hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars annually in the form of government grants, contracts and Medicaid reimbursements. But no longer.
The abortion giant has warned H.R. 1 could lead to the closure of nearly half of abortion-providing Planned Parenthood centers. Such a result would be a truly monumental win for life.
Jim Daly, President of Focus on the Family, issued the following statement after the House passed H.R. 1:
In the same vein, Tim Goeglein, Vice President of Government and External Relations at Focus on the Family, told the Daily Citizen in a statement, “The Big Beautiful Bill is one of the most pro-life pieces of legislation in American history, draining federal funding from our nation’s top abortion-industry leader for the first time.”
Goeglein added,

According to Heritage Action, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act “contains significant wins for the American people,” including:
- Extending and expanding tax cuts for American families.
- Making permanent major pro-growth reforms in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
- Stepping up border security and immigration enforcement.
- Rebuilding America’s military and restoring our national defense.
- Blocking taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood.
- Strengthening Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) work requirements.
- Eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse in Medicaid by creating work requirements, tightening eligibility, and limiting state financing schemes.
- Scaling back wasteful Green New Deal subsidies forced onto taxpayers in Biden’s deceptively named Inflation Reduction Act.
The Daily Citizen has previously covered more specific provisions included in the bill, which you can read about here.
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson issued a statement after the House vote, calling the bill “nation-shaping legislation,” adding,
President Trump is expected to sign the bill into law on July 4.
The speaker has already floated the idea of using the reconciliation process two more times – once this year, and again next year – to enact additional conservative priorities.
