Fans of the popular gameshow “The Price is Right” were outraged when they learned that celebrity guest host RuPaul, of “RuPaul’s Drag Show,” would match all that episode’s winnings and donate it to Planned Parenthood.

In a special prime-time episode, celebrity guest RuPaul announced that he was “playing for Planned Parenthood, which provides vital and often free service to both men and women.” By the end of the evening, he was set to match winnings that totaled $97,266.

While RuPaul may have been excited, longtime fans were less than pleased.

“@PriceIsRight Great, you gave a pile of money to baby killers. Isn’t that special,” tweeted one fan.

“Price is Right had a special show this evening & donated $94,000 to Planned Parenthood. I say goodbye to The Price is Right,” another user wrote.

“The Price is Right at Night is raising money for the ‘charity’ Planned Parenthood. Are you kidding me??? Wow… #whatisthisworldcomingto,” another displeased fan tweeted.

If “The Price is Right” thought that having RuPaul on would help increase ratings and bring in a different audience, it appears like that was a mistake

RuPaul is a well-known drag queen who has been trying to mainstream the practice through the popular television series “RuPaul Drag’s Show,” which has influenced both adults, and more disturbingly, children.

He’s also deeply wrong about Planned Parenthood. It doesn’t offer “vital” health services and nor are most of them “free.”

Planned Parenthood is in the business of making money, not providing health services to men and women in need. It does this mostly through abortion, which, due to the Hyde Amendment, cannot be paid for by the American taxpayers and is instead paid for by the patient.

In 2019, Planned Parenthood performed 345,672 abortions, which likely accounts for approximately 14% of all patient visits. That’s a 139% increase since 1993.

When it comes to other, more essential health care services, like cancer screenings, other health care services and even contraception, the abortion business has steadily been decreasing those services over the years. It is safe to say that screening for cancer should take a priority over abortion, but with a 68% decrease since just 2009, that’s not the case.

Not all of the services are “free” either. For any of the so-called “free” health care services, Planned Parenthood is actually reimbursed with American taxpayer dollars through Medicaid to the tune of $616.8 million at the end of the 2019 fiscal year.

Planned Parenthood also doesn’t need the money as the organization is rolling in cash. At the end of the business’ fiscal year in June 2019, Planned Parenthood’s revenue was $1.638 billion. Most of that money goes towards lobbying efforts and not to helping patients. In fact, a Planned Parenthood affiliate in Ohio closed two non-abortion clinics after the loss of Title X funding. Those clinics could have easily been supported by some of the $591.3 million the affiliate and national offices received in private donations that same year.

RuPaul’s donation would be much better served going to a small charity where that money could actually be put to lifechanging use.

As one of the most popular shows on daytime television, it would have been prudent for “The Price is Right” to carefully consider the impact of endorsing a business like Planned Parenthood.
