DOJ Indicts SPLC for Fraud — Used Donor Money to Fund Racist Groups

The Department of Justice announced a federal grand jury indictment against the Southern Poverty Law Center, charging the organization with using donor money to pay leaders of racist groups like the Ku Klux Klan, United Klans of America and the Aryan Nation’s affiliated Sadistic Souls Motorcycle Club.

While the SPLC claimed to work to dismantle these groups, raising millions of dollars in the process, the indictment alleges:

Between 2014 and 2023, the SPLC secretly funneled more than $3 million in SPLC funds to FS [field sources] who were associated with various violent extremist groups.

Focus on the Family President Jim Daly responded to the indictment, saying:

Do you see how diabolical the SPLC tactics have proven to be?

Declare your group the leading fighter against hate and then broaden the definition of hate so widely as to include any group that politically or even morally sees things differently. Then take some of the donor money you’ve already raised and use it to hire thugs who will manufacture and fan that hate.

Attorney and political commentator Jeff Childers used colorful language to describe the enormity of the charges against a leading leftist organization with an estimated $800 million dollars in assets. Childers called the organization the “nerve center” of “the left wing’s corpulent malevolent body,” adding:

By criminally indicting the SPLC, the Department of Justice shot an arrow straight into the progressive establishment’s throbbing, black brain. Its squid-like body is about to thrash all over the deck. Get ready. (His emphasis.)

FBI Director Kash Patel and acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announced the charges on April 21 at the U.S. Department of Justice. Blanche said:

In the Middle District of Alabama, a grand jury returned an 11-count indictment charging the Southern Poverty Law Center with six counts of wire fraud, four counts of bank fraud, and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering.

According to the charges in the indictment, the SPLC is a nonprofit entity that purports to fight white supremacy and racial hatred by reporting on extremist groups and conducting research to inform law enforcement groups with the goal of dismantling these groups.

However, as Blanche went on to explain:

The SPLC was not dismantling these groups. It was instead manufacturing the extremism it purports to oppose by paying sources to stoke racial hatred.

In one instance, SPLC funding led to death and destruction, as the acting AG stated:

The indictment describes this conduct in detail, but one troubling example is that the SPLC was paying a member of the leadership group that planned the Unite the Right protest in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017, that resulted in the death of one person and injured dozens more.

The indictment said the SPLC secretly paid a field source $270,000 to help plan and coordinate what became a deadly event.

The organization set up fake businesses with fake bank accounts to pay “field sources” working with extremist groups millions of dollars. Childers succinctly commented:

We might call that a “left-wing laundromat.” The indictment calls it both “money laundering” and a “conspiracy to commit money laundering.” (His emphasis.)

He explained the group’s motives – if they really were trying to shut down dangerous organizations – didn’t matter:

It is not legal for a private citizen or company to fund criminals. Not even as informants. You can’t cosplay as a cop and start making citizen’s arrests when somebody cuts you off in traffic. And you definitely can’t pay neo-Nazis to organize violent rallies. Even if you mean well. (His emphasis.)

The SPLC, founded in 1971 by Morris Dees, initially focused on civil rights legislation and on filing lawsuits against white supremacist groups such as the Ku Klux Klan. Dees was fired in 2019, following allegations of racial discrimination and sexual misconduct.

The radical organization broadened its reach in 2010 to target Christian and conservative groups that promote God’s design for marriage, sexuality and relationships. In a report titled “18 Anti-Gay Groups and Their Propaganda,” the SPLC defamed mainstream organizations like Concerned Women for America, Coral Ridge Ministries, Family Research Council and Liberty Counsel as “hate groups.”

That list grew and grew, and the SPLC finally added Focus on the Family to its “Hatewatch” list in May 2025.

Expanding the SPLC’s “hate group” list also expanded its donor base, bringing in millions from celebrities and businesses.

But being known as a “designated hate group,” as if it were some sort of objective, impartial classification, had harmful real-world consequences for these conservative and Christian groups.

Media outlets robotically repeated the “hate group” designation ad nauseam, damaging reputations, hindering fundraising, and causing loss of business or tech support. In addition, the FBI used the SPLC’s biased information in law enforcement efforts for 18 years.

The SPLC’s notorious “Hate Map” also contributed to acts of violence against conservative Christian groups and individuals.

In 2012, an LGBT supporter named Floyd Lee Corkins entered the offices of the Family Research Organization, a pro-family, pro-life group based in Washington D.C., bent on murdering as many employees there as possible. He was stopped by the building manager, who was shot in the process. Corkins confessed that he looked at the SPLC “hate map” to obtain FRC’s name and location.

In 2017, Congressman Steve Scalise was severely wounded by a shooter who targeted Republicans at a softball practice. The shooter turned out to be a Facebook fan of the SPLC, which had strongly criticized Scalise.

Childers is hopeful that “the SPLC does not survive this case as an organization.”

SPLC CEO told Fox News Digital, “We are outraged by the false allegations levied against SPLC – an organization that for 55 years has stood as a beacon of hope fighting white supremacy and various forms of injustice to create a multi-racial democracy where we can all live and thrive.”

Patel said the investigation was ongoing “against all individuals involved.”

Illegal Immigrant Charged with Murder of College Student

An illegal immigrant allegedly shot and killed a Chicago college student late last week.

Loyola Chicago freshman Sheridan Gorman had been looking for the northern lights with her friends early Thursday morning when a masked man approached them near Lake Michigan. According to police, the assailant brandished a gun before shooting at the group, striking Gorman in the back.

“She was exactly where she should have been — close to campus, surrounded by friends, living her life,” Gorman’s devastated family told NBC Chicago.

“Our family is forever changed.”

On Sunday, March 21, Chicago authorities charged 25-year-old Jose Medina-Medina with the first-degree murder of Sheridan Gorman, in addition to first-degree attempted murder, three counts of aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a firearm.

According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Medina had no business being in America — let alone on the streets of Chicago. U.S. Border Patrol apprehended the Venezuelan native trying to enter America illegally in May 2023.

One month later, after law enforcement released him into the country to await immigration trial, Chicago police arrested him for shoplifting.

Again, law enforcement released him.

A Chicago judge could theoretically release Medina a third time, albeit with an ankle bracelet, to await trial. DHS has asked Chicago authorities to keep the alleged murderer in custody pending deportation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Medina missed his first scheduled court appearance Monday after being hospitalized with unknown injuries.

Gorman’s family and friends expressed shock, grief and horror in the wake of her tragic passing. Loyola Chicago’s Cru (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ) described Sheridan as an “absolute delight” on Instagram — compassionate, selfless, kind, generous, joyful and genuine.

“We are heavy with grief,” the tribute reads. “And we hold that in tension with the reality that Jesus is our refuge and shelter.”

“The darkness of this world does not overshadow the light of Christ’s love,” the campus ministry added.

The students asked for prayers for Sheridan’s family and friends and for justice to be done in her case.

Sheridan’s family asked the world to remember the incomprehensible gravity of her death to her loved ones.

“This is not an abstraction,” they emphasized in their statement, continuing:

This is the loss of a daughter. This is the loss of a sister. The loss of a future with milestones that will now never come.

The Bible tells us justice is proportionate and upholds the rights of all people equally. Gorman’s murder is yet another tragic example of those in power prioritizing the freedom of illegal immigrants and repeat offenders over the safety of law-abiding citizens. Other victims of these miscarriages of justice include Stephanie Minter, Logan Federico, Iryna Zarutska, Laken Riley, Rachel Morin, Kayla Hamilton and Lizbeth Medina.

All people deserve equal protection under the law.

When will law-abiding citizens get it?

Please join the Daily Citizen in praying for Sheridan Gorman’s family and friends.

Career Criminal and Illegal Immigrant Charged with Violent Murder of Virginia Mom

Career criminal and illegal immigrant Abdul Jalloh committed violent crimes for nearly a decade before he stabbed a Virginia woman to death at a bus stop in late February.

Fairfax County police arrested Jalloh, 32, for the murder of 41-year-old Stephanie Minter on February 24. Jalloh was a known violent offender in the area, with more than 30 charges for crimes including rape, assault and malicious wounding dating back to 2014.

Though police explicitly warned the Fairfax County Attorney’s Office about Jalloh on at least three occasions prior to Minter’s death, prosecutors consistently failed to recommend he be incarcerated.

Jalloh came to the U.S. illegally from Sierra Leone in 2012, according to the Department of Homeland Security. Police records obtained by WJLA show Jalloh racked up at least nine charges for offenses including assault and rape between 2014 and 2020, when a judge approved an order to deport him.

Inexplicably, Jalloh remained in the U.S., where he continued to terrorize the community.

A judge sentenced Jalloh to two years in prison, and five years suspended, in 2023 for stabbing an elderly man — his second reported stabbing offense.

Laura Birnbaum, the chief of staff for Fairfax County Attorney Steve Descano, told Fox that prosecutors “made every effort to hold [Jalloh] accountable each subsequent time that he came into contact with the criminal justice system.”

But police records and communications obtained by WJLA tell a different story. Fairfax County dropped charges against Jalloh for seven crimes, including two stabbings, he allegedly committed between 2023 and 2024 — presumably while on parole.

In May 2025, police charged Jalloh with another stabbing. Fairfax County police subsequently emailed Descano’s office asking Jalloh be kept in jail.

“The suspect has a history of stabbing community members and was on probation during the most recent assault,” the officer wrote. “For those reasons … we ask that you argue he continues to be held at the [detention center].”

Jalloh bonded out of jail just two months later.

He landed back in jail in August for “assaulting an older male and stomping his head into the ground.” When a Fairfax County police officer expressed concern about the serial offender’s eventual release, Assistant Chief Brooke Wright assured him County Chief Deputy Attorney Jenna Sands was “on board” to prosecute Jalloh — even if a victim didn’t come forward.

Per Birnbaum, Fairfax County had previously declined to prosecute Jalloh’s crimes if they couldn’t locate his victim.

“In multiple cases, we were unable to move forward with prosecution because victims could not be located or contacted,” she explained.

Jalloh’s August arrest for assault triggered a probation violation, at which point a judge could have imposed his suspended five-year prison sentence. Instead, the prosecution and defense agreed to resuspend his prison term and end his probation all together.

A Fairfax County police major emailed Attorney Sands upon Jalloh’s release in November, trying to understand why he had been allowed back on the street.

“I wanted to get your background on why he is out so soon and ask if his prior suspended sentence (of I believe 5 years) was pursued by your office?” the major asked, continuing:

Unfortunately, based on [the Mount Vernon] station’s numerous dealings with him, it is not a question of if, but rather, when, he will maliciously wound (or worse) again.

Jalloh allegedly murdered Minter three months later.

NBC Washington asked Descano’s office why it didn’t recommend Jalloh’s suspended sentence be imposed. A spokeswoman claimed Jalloh could have only spent six months in jail for a parole violation, 100 days of which he had already served.

But that’s not true. Sentencing recommendations may suggest shorter sentences for parole violations, but state law allows judges to impose suspended sentences “for any cause the court deems sufficient that occurred at any time within the probation period.”

If the county attorney’s office was truly making “every effort” to keep Jalloh under lock and key, why, after his fourth violent attack since 2023, wouldn’t they recommend the judge impose his suspended sentence?

Further, why would they agree to end his parole entirely?

Minter’s mom told NBC Washington she and her family “have many questions” about why Jalloh was roaming free. Minter’s memorial describes her as “a happy, jolly individual, filled with love and adoration for her loved ones — a beam of light in dark places.”

She is survived by her son, Caden.

Jalloh had no business being in America, let alone roaming the streets. But, once again, members of the judicial system have shown more empathy for someone causing terrible suffering than the offender’s victims.

Some critics say Fairfax’s Descano intentionally recommends lighter sentences for immigrants — legal or otherwise.

Similar attitudes led to the victimization or murder of countless innocents including Bethany MaGee, Logan Federico, Iryna Zarutska, Laken Riley, Rachel Morin, Kayla Hamilton and Lizbeth Medina.

When will people in power decide the rights of law-abiding citizens deserve protecting?

Not soon enough.

The Department of Homeland Security has requested Fairfax County cooperate with ICE to deport Jalloh. Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger says officials won’t relinquish custody of Jalloh until a local judge signs another warrant to deport him.

More than $400K Raised for Innocent Woman Set on Fire by Career Criminal

The medical care fundraiser for Bethany MaGee exceeded $458,000 on Friday, less than a month after a stranger lit the 26-year-old on fire.

“We want to express our sincere gratitude,” Bethany’s tight-knit family wrote in an update.

“Whether you are a friend, our family or a stranger, your kindness toward Bethany — through prayers and such profound generosity — has been a daily comfort to us and will help smooth her way forward.”

The young Chicagoan suffered life-threatening burns late on November 17, after a fellow train passenger soaked her in gasoline and lit her on fire. Federal officials charged 50-year-old Lawrence Reed with Bethany’s attack the next morning.

Bethany had been sitting with her back to Reed, court documents allege, when he dumped a plastic bottle full of gasoline on her head. When she fled to the back of the train, her assailant lit the bottle on fire and threw it at her.

The 26-year-old collapsed on the train platform after several failed attempts to extinguish the flames.  A good Samaritan came to her aid, smothering the blaze with his jacket. Another reportedly kept Bethany calm while waiting for medics.

“In this season of Thanksgiving, we are so grateful for the chance to celebrate at Bethany’s side,” the MaGees wrote on Bethany’s fundraising page. “Thank you for keeping her and our family in your prayers.”

Bethany, described by her family as “sensitive, caring, intelligent and imaginative,” will spend at least three months in the hospital receiving treatment, The Daily Mail reported. The MaGee family asks for continued time and space to allow Bethany to heal.

The attack bears eerie resemblance to the murder of Iryna Zarutska in October. The 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee was stabbed to death on a train in North Carolina. Both women suffered unprovoked attacks by men with extensive rap sheets.

The man accused of killing Iryna had been arrested 14 times before. Multiple sources confirm Reed had been arrested 72 times before attacking Bethany. He had been convicted of eight felonies, including aggravated arson, and seven misdemeanors.

Reed was charged with aggravated battery in August after hitting a social worker, CBS News Chicago reports. Judge Molina-Gonzalez chose to release Reed with an ankle monitor, despite prosecutors’ objections.

“I can’t keep everybody in jail because the state’s attorney wants me to,” the judge said, per court transcripts obtained by The Daily Mail.

Perhaps not. But what if the offender routinely assaults other citizens?

The conditions of Reed’s release included a curfew. He violated it to travel on the train where he attacked Bethany.

Proverbs 31:8-9 commands Christians to “judge righteously” and defend the rights of all people. The justice system in Chicago prioritized Reed’s comfort and rehabilitation over the physical safety of everyone around him.

Americans opened their wallets to help Bethany and other victims of preventable crime. But how many more must be killed or injured for leaders and justices to start prioritizing the rights of all Americans, equally?

Grieving Father Demands Accountability After Daughter’s Senseless Murder

Grieving father Stephen Federico demanded legislators hold career criminals accountable for their crimes Monday at a fiery House Judiciary Committee field hearing for victims of violent crimes.

Federico’s daughter, 22-year-old Logan, was murdered on May 3 while visiting friends in South Carolina. Her killer broke into the house where she was staying, dragged her out of bed, forced her to her knees, shot her dead and stole her belongings.

“My daughter wanted to be a teacher,” Stephen choked out at the hearing, which occurred in Logan’s native North Carolina. “She had finally figured it out two weeks before she was executed.”

Police arrested Alexander Devante Dickey, 30, for Logan’s murder after he used her stolen debit card. Stephen says police knew him on sight.

“When they saw his face on video, they didn’t have to do a check,” he fumed. “He was arrested so many times that they knew who he was. They knew exactly where to go get him.”

Police had filed criminal charges against Dickey 39 times before he allegedly murdered Logan. He pled guilty to multiple charges of grand larceny and burglary across three different cases between 2014 and 2023.

He was put on probation thrice during that time; twice, it was revoked.

“They cared more about making sure he wasn’t put in prison than worrying about whether or not he was going to hurt somebody,” Stephen told Fox’s Laura Ingraham.

Most, though not all, of Dickey’s offenses were reportedly nonviolent. But Stephen claims his crimes escalated in severity over time. In 2021, Dickey was granted supervised release after committing strong-arm robbery — a legal category of robbery in which an offender beats up or threatens to beat up a victim while robbing them.

Dickey’s extensive record alone should have precluded him from being released. But evidence uncovered by a local news outlet shows Dickey would likely still be in prison had it not been for a clerical error.

In 2023, Dickey finished out a five-year stint in prison for third-degree robbery — the maximum time an offender can receive for their first offense. But it wasn’t Dickey’s first offense. He had previously pled guilty to third-degree burglary in March 2015.

A subsequent investigation by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) confirmed Dickey’s file did not include any information about two of the three cases brought against him between 2014 and 2015.

The error presumably occurred because the government brought more cases against Dickey while he was in custody. SLED didn’t book Dickey again for the new charges, so meant they weren’t added to his RAP sheet. The maintains prosecutors had access to Dickey’s full arrest record.

Regardless, if Hubbard had correctly charged Dickey with a second offense for third-degree burglary, he could have spent up to ten years in prison — and Logan would still be alive.

The case bears chilling resemblance to the murder of Iryna Zarutska in August. Decarlos Brown allegedly stabbed the 23-year-old to death with a pocket knife on a train in Charlotte. Brown had been arrested 14 times before — twice for assaulting women.

Stephen is determined to get true justice for his beloved daughter. He also wants to ensure elected officials hold offenders accountable for unacceptable behavior before they take a life.

“Stop protecting the people that keep taking them from us, please!” He begged the committee members.

“We put you in power,so do what you have to do. We’re begging you all to stop this.”

Laws and social rules enable humans to live together in a sinful world. God forbade murder and established court of law the the Noahic Covenant after the flood.

He provided the wandering Israelites with His divine law in Exodus and Leviticus. U.S. laws are rooted in the Ten Commandments given to the nation of Israel at Sinai.

In the New Testament, Paul explains that God gives governments authority punish wrongdoers and restrain bad conduct.

Clearly, South Carolina’s criminal justice system failed in its God-given duty to protect citizens.

Those who habitually harm their neighbors cannot be allowed to roam freely.
