Gospel singers Roman Collins and CeCe Winans performed a moving rendition of “Goodness of God” during the season finale on American Idol on Sunday night.

Collins competed in American Idol this year, captivating the judges with his stirring gospel performances. He made it to the Top 12 before being eliminated. Winans is one of the best-selling and most-awarded female gospel artists of all time, selling over 17 million records.

Millions of Americans watched the finale, waiting to find out the winner of the show’s 22nd season. But with Collins and Winans’ performance, they were suddenly transported to a Christian concert. Their duet brought American Idol judge Katy Perry to tears.

You can watch the performance below:

“The best performance of this song I have ever heard. One of the best gospel performances I have ever heard, period,” said conservative commentator Steve Deace. “Really blessed me, will share it with others now in the hopes it will bless them.”

After the performance on Sunday, Roman Collins posted on Facebook, “What an honor to stand beside this GIANT IN THE KINGDOM,” Collins said, referring to Winans. “God is so amazing he continues to blow my mind I pray you all were blessed by this just as much as I was.”

“It was an honor to sing #GoodnessofGod with you @romancollinsofficial,” Winans posted on Facebook.

Collins serves as the director of Biola University’s Gospel Choir, which aims “to minister all styles of Gospel Music.” His latest album, Same Gospel New Sound (Live) was released on March 15, 2024.

“Goodness of God” was first released by Bethel Music and Jenn Johnson on Nov. 1, 2019, as the third single from Bethel Music’s album Victory. It was nominated for the Worship Recorded Song of the Year at the 2020 GMA Dove Awards and was Certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America on April 15, 2021.

“Goodness of God” went on to win the 2023 GMA Dove Award for Song of the Year.

CeCe Winans released her version of the song in 2021 on her live album Believe For It. Her rendition was nominated for the Gospel Worship Recorded Song of the Year at the 2022 GMA Dove Awards.

At the end of the finale, Abi Carter was crowned the 22nd American Idol. Country artist Will Mosley was the runner-up while Jack Blocker came in third place.

American Idol has been renewed for a 23rd season with judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie returning for their eighth seasons.

Roman Collins’ and CeCe Williams’ delivery of “Goodness of God” is a magnificent rendering of an ancient Judeo-Christian practice – the praise of the Lord. May we remember to praise Him for all He has done for us.

“Praise the Lord!
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens!
Praise him for his mighty deeds;
praise him according to his excellent greatness!

Praise him with trumpet sound;
praise him with lute and harp!
Praise him with tambourine and dance;
praise him with strings and pipe!
Praise him with sounding cymbals;
praise him with loud clashing cymbals!
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord!”
(Psalm 150, ESV).
