It is a baseless, but oft-repeated little ditty from gender theorists that sex is what is between your legs and gender is what’s between your ears. It is meant to convince all of us that sex and gender are two very different things and the anatomy between our legs is not necessarily what we are. Gender theory wants us to believe that the rest of our bodies are un-sexed and we can become whatever we feel suits us best.

Of course, this is wrong.

There has been a great deal of solid research over the last few decades showing us that sex actually is what is between our ears. Here, here, here, here, here, here and here are but just a few science-based examples.

Humans have sex-dimorphic brains that are either male or female. There are no other options.

A recent Stanford University-based study, published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS) takes an even more sophisticated look at male and female brains. Working from a diverse array of academic departments in the neurosciences, this team of five scholars explain, “Our findings provide strong reproducible evidence for differences in how female and male brains are intrinsically organized.” They add,

Our results provide the most compelling and generalizable evidence to date, refuting the continuum [or gender spectrum] hypothesis and firmly demonstrating sex differences in the functional organization of the human brain.

These researchers did not just study brain size and shape, but looked inside the workings and systems of the human brain more intricately to discern male and female differences. Put more fully, these scholars hold,

Using what are called “deep learning” and “spatiotemporal deep neural network” AI models, this research team worked to “uncover latent functional brain dynamics that distinguish male and female brains” by examining 1,500 young adults aged 20 to 35.

Their research demonstrated “consistently high cross-validation accuracy” exceeding 90% clarity. This graph from the study shows the clarity with which these researchers could determine women’s unique brain “fingerprints of resting brain activity” as wholly distinct from men’s brain activity. There is no overlap whatsoever and very clear distinction.

These Stanford authors explain they had four objectives in their study.

  • Determine whether there are reliable sex differences in the functional organization of the human brain beyond mere shape and size.
  • To determine if such differences in the functioning of the human brain were replicable and generalizable across male and female.
  • To “identify stable neurobiologically interpretable features underlying sex differences” in male and female brain fingerprints.
  • To relate sex differences in functional brain organization to measurable behavior in females and males.

They found clear and “large effect sizes” for all these factors, concluding for their readers,

Our study provides compelling evidence for replicable and generalizable sex differences in the functional organization of the human brain. We identified replicable and generalizable brain features within the [various brain networks] that differentiate between sexes. Critically, these brain features predict unique patterns of cognitive profiles in females and males, demonstrating their behavioral significance.

Just as every cell in the human body is sexed, the scientific evidence that the brain is dimorphically sexed as well, and not just “gendered” or created by socialization is growing stronger and more sophisticated.

We are fearfully and wonderfully made and our amazing design as male and female runs throughout out the body in profoundly intricate of ways. Science continues to affirm this and we are wise to study it as ever-curious students of God’s handiwork.
