Today, the U.S. Supreme Court made history as it overturned Roe v. Wade. Reactions from the pro-life community were filled with gratitude to God for justice finally being served and to the Supreme Court for restoring constitutional order.

For nearly 50 years, the moral conscience of our nation has been compromised by the tragic and unnecessary loss of over 60 million babies through the legalization of abortion by the United States Supreme Court. But starting today, that wrong has been righted.

Starting today, the right to decide these matters is properly returned to the people of the United States and their representatives.

Starting today, the battle to win hearts and minds for the pro-life cause has never been more critical.

In response to the Supreme Court’s ruling, Mississippi’s Attorney General, who brought the underlying case, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, responded, “Today marks a new era in American history — and a great day for the American people. Roe v. Wade is now behind us, consigned to the list of infamous cases that collapsed under the weight of their errors. This decision is a victory not only for women and children, but for the Court itself. Now, our work to empower women and promote life truly begins. The Court has let loose its hold on abortion policymaking and given it back to the people….”

President of Focus on the Family, Jim Daly, celebrated the landmark decision by thanking God and the millions of pro-life Americans who have faithfully advanced the pro-life cause for the last 49 years. He reiterated the organization’s commitment to life, “We remain dedicated to fostering and furthering a culture of life, which recognizes the dignity of each and every person. This should not be a political cause of only a few – but the cause of all who care about and support the preservation and protection of human rights.”

Alliance Defending Freedom, which served on the legal team defending Mississippi’s law, tweeted, “This is not just a victory for sound constitutional law. It also clears the way for Americans to restore fundamental respect for human life: welcoming children, supporting women, and nurturing families.”

Ryan Anderson, President of the Ethics and Public Policy Center and defender of the pro-life causetweeted“Today’s ruling is the culmination of decades of public advocacy, of unheralded acts of love and mercy, and of unrelenting prayers for justice for the unborn and their mothers. It will be remembered and celebrated as one of the most important days in the history of this country…Today is also the beginning of a new chapter in our work of building a more robust culture of life that protects babies, supports mothers, and strengthens families for the long haul….”

National Right to Life President Carol Tobias responded, “This is a great day for preborn children and their mothers. The Court has correctly decided that a right to abortion is not in the Constitution, thereby allowing the people, through their elected representatives, to have a voice in this very important decision.”

President of Americans United for Life Catherine Glenn Foster emphasized how important this decision is to protect women and babies, “Today is a promise of hope for all members in the human family, but especially for mothers and those millions who will now be protected from prenatal violence.”

While celebration is in order, those in the pro-life movement know that there is still much work to do. March for Life tweeted, “We recognize that this is just the beginning of our work to advance policies that protect life. We will continue to march until abortion is unthinkable because equality begins in the womb.”

President of the Family Research Council Tony Perkins, encouraged those in the pro-life movement to stay engaged in the important work ahead, “We will redouble our support for mothers and fathers in need especially by supporting the great work of pregnancy resource centers. We must elect pro-life representatives to every level of government from the school board to the White House.”

Lila Rose, President of pro-life organization Live Action, reminded her followers on Twitter, “Our work is just beginning.”

Effective immediately, Focus on the Family has launched a multimillion-dollar pro-life video ad campaign to change hearts and minds on the issue of abortion and promote Focus’ Option Ultrasound Program, which has saved nearly half a million babies from abortion since 2004. You can watch the video here.

We fight for life because we know that all human life has value and that we are image bearers of God. Ben Shapiro, the keynote speaker at Focus on the Family’s SeeLife 2022tweeted, “This is a victory for all human beings, who are created in the image of God.”

And Albert Mohler, an intellectual faith leader in the evangelical movement, opened his special edition broadcast covering the Supreme Court decision today by citing Psalm 118:24, “This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
