A video of a young boy learning of his adoption has gone viral on TikTok.

In the video, Chris Overton’s new son Jameson is swimming in a backyard pool. To deliver the news of his adoption, Chris jumps into the pool with Jameson.

Chris tries to calm the rowdy Jameson down, letting him know that he has something to tell him.

“Tell me the news!” Jameson exclaims. Chris then whispers to him, “I’m your dad now.”

Jameson’s jaw instantly drops before he jumps into Chris’ arms and gives his new dad a very long hug.

“I love you,” Jameson tells his dad.

“I love you,” Chris responds.

“I love you more,” Jameson replies.

“The family had been trying to finalize the adoption for two years before it was finally made official,” Live Action notes.

For families going through the adoption process, Chris – in an interview on ABC News – advised, “Don’t give up.”

“It was incredibly difficult, incredibly challenging, but when you just follow your heart, you just know the right thing to do,” he added.

In her book Them Before Us, children’s rights advocate Katy Faust writes that “Adoption honors children’s rights because adults are seeking to mend the loss of a child’s biological parents.”

The great benefit that adoption can have for children is just one of the reasons that Focus on the Family cares deeply about helping children find loving parents.

Repeatedly throughout Scripture, people of faith are called to care for the orphan and the widow. And during his time on earth, Jesus Christ loved children – and He still does today.

“And he took a child and put him in the midst of them, and taking him in his arms, he said to them, ‘Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me’” (Mark 9:36-37, ESV).

Currently, the United States has more than 391,000 children in foster care. Focus on the Family’s Wait No More program helps inspire families to become involved in the lives of waiting kids, whether through adoption or in a different way.
