Seattle City Council Votes Unanimously to Protect Polygamists and Infidelity
A lot of smart people live in Seattle, but their City Council did something really dumb this week.
By unanimous vote, the Seattle City Council on Tuesday removed the legal reality of male and female in city statute relative to “sexual orientation” and gave legal recognition and protections to a whole host of very unhealthy sexual and gender identities. Some of them don’t even exist in reality. They even backtracked on the lie that sexual orientation rests on “just being born that way.”
And Seattle’s City Council had to do all this because the gender and sexual revolution keeps moving its own goal posts.
The Emerald City’s leadership explained their vote “update[s] the existing protected class of ‘sexual orientation’” by removing any “reference to the male and female gender binary.” The fact that being either male or female is universally fundamental to being human is no concern to them as Seattle affirms its legal recognition and protection of “non-binary gender identities.” Of course, non-binary is a fictitious ideological construct which does not exist in nature. Every cell in the human body is sexed. That sex is either male or female. “Non-binary” exists solely in the imagination.
In addition, Seattle now recognizes “‘pansexuality’ and ‘asexuality’ as sexual orientations subject to civil rights protections.” Pansexuality is also a made-up term, created to cover over the embarrassment that “bisexuality” rests on the dreaded “gender binary.” Bi is right there in its name. The creation of pansexuality was needed because gender theory now incoherently holds that anyone can be any of the 20, 68, 72, 81, or 87 sexualities that none of the people telling us they exist can seem to agree on. Being bi- is now the flat-earther of gender theory and the Seattle City Council is just trying to keep up. The moving goal posts.
Asexuality is not a thing in itself. It is merely the lack of natural sexual or romantic desire and is little understood. The condition needs no legal protection and almost no one sees it as a sexual orientation. It is a human aberration.
But Seattle’s city fathers and mothers didn’t just stop at creating non-existent legally protected identities. They expanded the very definition of sexual orientation and what constitutes a family.
Gay activists have long insisted on a “born this way” conception of sexual orientation in order to justify their political goals. After all, how can you blame someone for simply being the way they were born? But no science has ever established this claim. And the LGBT movement has been moving away from that tired claim for some time now. One prominent gay leader complained in The New York Times just this summer that today “being gay begins to look less like an inborn trait and more like a chosen ideology or aesthetic.”
To keep up with this shift, Seattle’s unanimously passed legal protections recognize that sexual orientation consist not of a citizen’s biology, but their “attitudes, preferences, and practices pertaining to sexual orientation.” This new understanding will be reflected throughout the city’s civil codes. Seattle is also now the largest municipality to give legal recognition and protection to polygamous and polyamorous sexual pairings.
Seattle’s Office of the City Clerk explains all this was done by “amending the definition of the sexual orientation protected class to recognize gender identities outside the gender binary, recognize pansexuality and asexuality as orientations, and include consensual relationships with multiple partners as an element of attitudes, preferences, and practices pertaining to sexual orientation.”
City law will be changed to reflect these new manufactured realities, taking effect June 1, 2027.
