Sometimes when it doesn’t seem like things could get any worse, they do. Despite the national outrage towards New York’s new radical pro-abortion legislation, abortion activists parading as politicians continue to push the limits.
On Tuesday, a House delegate from Virginia tried to argue that the state’s restriction on late term abortion should be rescinded, even if the woman was in the early stages of labor when she makes the decision.
“(Abortion) through the third trimester, the third trimester goes all the way up to 40 weeks (should be legal),” Delegate Kathy Tran said. “I don’t think we have a limit in the bill.”
When asked about how the health of the mother could make abortion a “necessary” option in the third trimester, Delegate Tran and her supporter from the radical pro-abortion organization NARAL had no answer. Part of the reason is that the truth actually negates their entire argument.
Aborting a child in the later stages of pregnancy to save the mother’s health makes no sense, medically speaking. It actually is much faster to deliver the child via emergency C-section, which doctors can perform in about a minute if necessary, than to complete an abortion. A third-trimester abortion is a multi-day procedure that requires several office visits. A C-section is not only safer but could save the mother’s life and the child’s.
Her statements sparked outrage, but that wasn’t the end. In an ill-conceived attempt to defend his fellow Democrat, the Governor of Virginia, Ralph Northam, made statements many could define as evil. He stated:
“If the mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen,” he said. “The infant (with severe disabilities) would be delivered, the infant would be kept comfortable, the infant would be resuscitated if this is what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physician and the mother.”
That is not abortion, that is murder.
No child should suffer while a distraught mother and doctors discuss if the baby should live or die. That’s barbaric and reeks more of Nazi eugenic policies towards the disabled than anything resembling “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” that Thomas Jefferson wrote about in the Declaration of Independence.
Between the law in New York and the shocking statements made by elected government representatives in Virginia, it is clear that certain elements within the Democratic Party have a adopted a radical, deadly pro-abortion position. No longer are we in the Clinton era of “safe, legal and rare.” Instead the situation has devolved into a place where infanticide is considered an appropriate way to treat a defenseless newborn baby.
In response to this culture of death, the Virginia Governor added that men should have no place in “telling a woman what she should and should not be doing with her body.” Basically, he told half of the country that they have no say in the death of a child. That’s wrong.
Albert Einstein has a rather famous quote that reads, “The world is in greater peril from those who tolerate or encourage evil than those who actually commit it.”
What Virginia, New York and other states have done is evil, the question is will we continue to tolerate it?
